What is Momentum?

Through the 162-year history of First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, there have been seasons in which God has worked in significant ways and the church has stepped forward in bold faith. Those have been times of God-sized impact and growth. We believe that we are now entering another of those crucial seasons. The opportunities before us are great, and we believe God is turning divine gears, building MOMENTUM toward what he wants to accomplish in us and through us. As God promises in Philippians 1:6, we are confident that he who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion!

...he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 1:6

We have reached the halfway mark of Momentum

First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit’s 2-year discpleship and generosity initiative!

Way to go!

We’ve seen significant growth in giving in year one of our Momentum emphasis, with record giving that far surpasses previous years. The generosity of the church family has made it possible for our church to make an impact in remarkable ways in the past year as we have worked together to Love God, Love People, and Make Disciples. However, we are far short of the halfway mark of our God-sized two-year financial goal. Though ministry and missions are fully funded, without a significant increase in giving in year two, we will have to borrow more than we hoped to complete our facility renovation.

What’s it all about?

There are several ways we will build momentum in the coming years, but our primary goal is: 100% engagement. Momentum is first and foremost a discipleship initiative: we want our people to grow in faith and in generosity. It isn’t just about raising money to pay for ministry. Our primary goal is that 100% of the people at FBCLS would engage in this initiative to experience a life-changing encounter with God. If 100% of the people of the church get fully engaged, we expect to see an increase in generosity and faith like we’ve never seen before!

  • $3.7 Million for Ministry

We will continue to share the Gospel through the regular ministries of the church: preschool, kids, student, young adult, senior adult, worship and discipleship programs, support groups, staff salaries, utilities, and other ongoing ministries.

  • $500,000 for Missions

We will continue to support and expand the church’s missions and outreach efforts: new initiatives to minister to the people who live and work in downtown Lee’s Summit, enhanced efforts to reach out to our community, and ongoing generosity with multiple kingdom-impacting ministries (including Tabitha ministry in Guatemala, Hillcrest, Lee’s Summit Social Services, Restoration House, Blue River KC Association, ChurchNet, the SBC International Mission Board, and CBF Global Missions)

  • $2.5 Million for Facility Improvements

We will raise the bulk of the funds needed for improvements to our worship center that will help us reach our community and facilitate meaningful encounters with God. Plans include significant technology updates, enhancing the visibility of the stained glass, redesigning the platform for the variety of ways we use it, and updating the aesthetics of the space.
